Auschwitz is the name of the notorious concentration camp and killing center the Nazis built at the town of Oświęcim in German-occupied Poland. The Auschwitz camp complex—which has become emblematic of the wider Nazi camp system—includes the original concentration camp (Auschwitz I), the killing center at Auschwitz-Birkenau (Auschwitz II), the Auschwitz-Monowitz forced labor camp (Auschwitz III), and several dozen subcamps.
